Adding vinegar to the flower water is said to act as an effective antibacterial agent, keeping blooms fresher for longer.

Preserving cut flowers with vinegar essentially lowers the pH, which in turn, increases the acidity. This helps to create an environment that is less suitable for the growth of bacteria, which typically causes the speed of decline in freshness of the flowers.

Before placing them in the vase, she started by stripping all the leaves from half way down the stems. Next, she trimmed the bottom of the stems.

‘Arrange them into the vase of prepared water solution,’ she said.
